A little background on Camping Sitaba Lodge
Why Janjangbureh and why a lodge?
The name Camping Sitaba came from the Mandinka word for a big tree as "Sitaba" means a big baobab tree. Also, one of these big baobab trees can be found at the front entrance of the lodge.

Camping Sitaba was founded in 2012, where three round huts and a bar was formed. The round huts were built as we wanted to adhere to the eco tourism. The round huts have been divided into two rooms that are spacious enough to also have an ensuite toilets with a shower. We wanted to encourage the surrounding nature and incorporate a local style "like" camping.

We are located in front of the local rice fields which encourages a number of different types of birds and the wildlife.
Janjangbureh was the village in which the owner grew up in and even though he has since moved away, he has a love his home town and for the local people, that are now more like family. So he wanted to bring development for the community to have and to bring opportunities of employment.

Janjangbureh is well known for cultural festivals which usually take place every year. It is a historical village as it was the first village for settlement for the English, additional it is known for slavery. As this is where most slaves were kept before being exported to other countries.

Camping Sitaba was the first settlement to be built by the riverside and to supply tourism to those not only visiting The Gambia, but also to Gambians and the locals of Janjangbureh. So they can find out the history of this beautiful village.
